What visitors have said about Caserma Carina

We visited Caserma Carina 3 years ago and vowed to go back as it is a place that you never forget, Having just returned from a week there our memories of how beautiful the area is and the ambience of Caserma Carina were renewed once more. Our apartment, Papavero overlooked the pool and gardens with the nearby mountains in the distance. It is beautifully furnished and has everything you could possibly need for a happy, carefree holiday. The pool and garden areas, like the apartments, are kept spotlessly clean by Dean and Lesley with sunbeds and parasols enough for the amount of people staying there, no rushing down early morning with your towel to grab a sunbed before they're all taken! The pool has been fenced off since our last visit for Italian safety law compliance, but it has been very cleverly erected and does not in any way take away the beauty of the gardens and the fantastic views and the surrounding countryside. There are many places to visit close by, the coast only a 30-40 minute drive with the mountains equal distance, and Dean and Lesley are always happy to advise on directions etc. We joined in the wine tasting afternoon which was good fun and informative on wines produced in the surrounding areas, Dean was in his element speaking Italian to Diana and translating back to us in English. The views from the gazebo where we sat were absolutey stunning and the nibbles served with the wine were tasty and plentiful. Deans "Offie" in the garage was very handy when we returned as we then had drinkies on the terrace with the other guests, a very pleasant evening. The weather was very kind to us with pure blue skies every day and warm evenings making outside dining a pleasure. A review would not be complete without mentioning Gracie who is Dean and Lesleys beautiful 7 year old daughter, full of fun and and an absolute delight, and Marley the friendly and well behaved dog who follows Dean and Lesley around 2 inches from their heels. Whether you want a holiday on the move, visiting different places with good food and drink, or a chill-out by the pool in beautiful surroundings, Caserma Carina fits the bill. Thankyou Dean, Lesley and Gracie for working so hard to make our holiday a wonderful experience again. We'll be back!

This was our second holiday at Caserma Carina. This time we stayed in Papavero which was as well equipped and beautifully furnished as Lavanda, with beautiful views extending from Dean and Lesley's immaculate garden to the surrounding and distant countryside. The pristine pool and comfy sun loungers made it difficult to venture very far, as did the welcome new addition of Dean's honesty bar, packed with the perfectly chilled local wine, beer and soft drinks. We thoroughly enoyed joining all the other guests for a pizza evening, hosted by Dean and Lesley, using their very impressive new pizza oven and also spent a wonderful early evening at the local vineyard; sampling the wine with some excellent accomanying 'nibbles' while taking in the amazing panoramic views. A memory to savour for a long time! The teenagers in our group made great use of the pool, and enjoyed being near enough to Mogliano to walk up and sample the local 'pizza in the park', and various cafes. Another popular trip for all the family was up to Lake Fiastra, where you can either hire a pedalo or just enjoy swimming in the beautiful lake, a quieter alternative to the Italian beaches in August! Looking forward to another return visit!

We found Caserma Carina on Alastair Sawday's site and based on that, the website itself, and the tripadvisor reviews we decided to book it for our honeymoon. We also had a 10 month old baby with us so wanted somewhere family friendly. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Dean and Leslie, and their lovely daughter Grace. They provided us with everything we could possibly need for our stay with a little one - travel cot, baby bath, hooded bath towel, highchair, toys, milk, babysitter - and he thoroughly enjoyed splashing about in the pool with the other kids that were staying. The grounds at Caserma Carina are immaculate and the apartments themselves very tastefully presented and comfortable. Wine tasting at the local vineyard was a particular highlight, as was our night out at the Marina restaurant in Mogliano, pizza night, and our brief tour of the Sibilini mountains. The whole atmosphere at Caserma is friendly, relaxed and fun, the weather was scorching hot, and we had a fantastic couple of weeks.
Davies,  Cockermouth,  Aug 2011

Short but so sweet our stay in Caserma Carina! Set in an idyllic location in the heart of Le Marche, surrounded by rolling hills, fields of sunflowers and vineyards, Caserma Carina is a haven of tranquillity - the ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, relax by the pool or simply chill with a bottle of local wine (readily available from Dean’s well stocked and well chilled mini-bar!). With the sun shining, from sunrise to sunset, throughout our stay, the pool was extremely enticing (thanks in particular to Dean for keeping it so clean), but the region of Le Marche has a lot more to offer and there are plenty of interesting places to explore, many within a short distance of Caserma Carina: Mogliano, a small hilltop town just minutes away, with an excellent gelateria and several bars/restaurants, Loro Piceno, l’Abbadia di Fiastra, Treia, Tolentino with its two main and very impressive churches (San Nicolà and San Catervo), the Adriatic coast line - on this visit we had a seafood lunch by the sea in Porto San Giorgio and then went on to Porto Sant’Epidio with its beach lined with pine trees, Recanati and Loreto to name but a few. Also worth a mention and not too far away from Caserma Carina in Umbria is the town of Assisi, and Monte Cucco which we also visited whilst in Italy – a perfect spot up in the mountains for hang gliding or simply having a picnic whilst enjoying the scenery and views. We particularly appreciated the fresh mountain air although it was so windy in one spot we nearly took off ourselves! Six days was far too short to do this beautiful and still largely undiscovered region of Italy justice - another good reason to return to Caserma Carina in the not too distant future ;-) Our apartment La Lavanda was spacious and stylishly furnished, and offered spectacular views of the countryside beyond. Our hosts, Dean and Lesley, were always willing to stop for a chat or provide information on the local area, making their guests feel as comfortable and as welcome as possible. Being a big lover of Italy (not least its pasta – I particularly enjoyed the pasta in the restaurant Mangiafuoco in Petriolo – ask Dean or Lesley to give you directions!) and having already connections with this region of Italy, I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Caserma Carina or to recommend this country house to my family and friends for future holidays. Thanks again to Dean and Lesley and in bocca al lupo as the Italians say!

This was our 4th visit to Caserma Carina and as in the 3 previous years we had a truly fantastic time. The apartments are very spacious, very well equiped and perfectly clean. The gardens and pool area are immaculately kept and are a real tribute to Dean and Lesley who work tirelessly to keep it that way. Dean, :Lesley and Gracie made us very welcome and can't do enough to advise, and guide their guests through the complexities and curiousities of rural Italian life. We've added a couple of places to the list that we hadn't previously seen, they are, The Piano Grande, a 1400m high plateau in the Sibilini mountains, spectacularly covered in blue and red wild flowers. It's a bit of a drive but well worth every 2nd and sometime1st gear hairpin bend on the way up. Ascoli Piceno, a beautiful medieval town, a bit bigger than most of the hill top towns but a great place to wander around and lose yourself. There really is a lot to do in Le Marche and because it's seems to be largely unaffected by tourism, you know you're getting a "real slice of rural Italy".

My husband and I just spent a week at Caserma Carina and enjoyed every moment of our time there. Since neither of us has a driver's license, we took the train from Bologna to Corridonia and were met at the station by Lesley, one of the proprietors of the country house. We stayed in Tulipano, a one-bedroom apartment that could sleep 2-4 people. The standard was very high, and the decor was modern and attractive. Truly, it felt like a home-away-from-home, which is exactly what you want when you're on vacation. I have absolutely no complaints about our apartment--everything was in tip-top condition--comfortable bed, digital cable, dvd player, etc. The country house is in a bucolic yet convenient location--it's a short (15-20-minute walk) though slightly steep walk into the hill town of Mogliano, where there are several good restaurants and cafés as well as other amenities. We loved the garden, where we spent many lazy days reading, taking a dip in the pool or simply enjoying a glass of wine. The wine tasting arranged at a La Murola vineyard was a popular outing for all of us staying that week. Dean kept the jokes coming and the wine (served with local specialties) was stellar. I think this was probably the best vacation my husband and I have ever had-we were able to unwind and just drink in the beautiful scenery without feeling like we absolutely had to take excursions every day. Lesley and Dean were fantastic hosts who really made us feel welcome. You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay in one of their lovely apartments and enjoy their hospitality.

We have lost count of the number of visits we have made to Caserma Carina and have just returned from another blissfull 14 nights. The apartments never disapoint and the grounds seem to improve each year as a result of Dean and Lesleys care. Dean, Lesley and Gracie are excellent hosts and always have a good suggestion of which restaurants to visit or places to go.. We had a really enjoyable fabulously chilled out time. What more can we say, we are addicted and will be back.

Our 2nd visit to Le Marche and Caserma Carina this May and it just felt like going home! Everything exudes 'BENVENUTO' from the moment you drive down the lane to step out and gaze at the breathtaking views of the distant snow capped mountains, nearby hill top towns and villages, and surrounding countryside. The beautiful house, apartments and gardens clearly display the loving care, extensive work and creativity that Dean and Lesley have put into developing Caserma Carina as their family home and 'special place' for their guests. All apartments are superbly designed and homely, with lovely touches relating to their names - e.g. Poppy, Sunflower. Key for us is 'the family' - Dean and Lesley (Grace too) provide a wealth of written and spoken information about places to visit, best restaurants and 'Dean's daily weather forecast - always accurate! The friendliness and attention that they provide ensure you have so much more than a 'good holiday'. We love Macerata - buildings are worth exploring and the Carriage Museum is a must, Della Rosa a superb trattoria. Fiatsra Abbey, and La Selva are both great! Mogliano is charming and not touristy - you are hard pushed to find postcards anywhere to send home! A true scenario of Italian life surrounds you. La Perla - a new find - friendly, family restaurant and lovely food. So .. another fantastic break in May AND we return in September to do more exploring and soak up the Italian culture, sun and warmth of Caserma Carina. It is such a gem - I can't recommend it enough.

This was our 3rd trip to Marche, but our first stay at Caserma Carina...our only regret was that we didn't book 2 weeks there! Caserma Carina is a great place just to read and relax, but there is also plenty to do in the region (countless hill towns to discover, hiking, beaches, wine tasting, shopping, etc.), and still relatively few tourists. Lesley, Dean and Gracie have created a wonderful spot... the setting is fabulous, the grounds and apartments are beautiful (and so clean and well maintained!) & the pool is just perfect....What is really special though is the warm and welcoming atmosphere that they have created. It was difficult to leave (even for little day trips, never mind at the end of our stay), and we hope to be back again soon...
Himmelrich,  Switzerland,  Jul 2010

This was our second visit to Caserma Carina and it did not disappoint. We had a fabulous holiday, Mogliano and the surrounding areas have so much to offer, it left us once again wanting more............................ We have some great memories of our stay, early morning swims (thank you Dean), the fabulous scenery, wonderful art, amazing festivals and that glass of vino watching the sun go down in the garden. Caserma Carina is an absolute gem, Dean and Lesley are great hosts who could not be more welcoming and helpful, supported by Gracie who was a delight. We have Le Marche in our hearts. we will be back!
Sellars,  Leicester,  Aug 2010

We had a wondeful family holiday at Caserma Carina. It is a beautiful location, completely unspoiled and not at all touristy. If you need an English newspaper when you're on holiday then this is not the place for you ! Dean and Lesley are the most wonderful hosts, always happy to arrange restaurant reservations and to give you tips on visits out, but never intrusive. Their daughter is delightful and so is their puppy ! The site and apartments are immaculate as is the pool. We were a family of four in a one bedroom apartment but there was ample space. The honesty fridge is a great idea, ensuring chilled wine, beer and soft drinks are always available. We would highly recommend these apartments and ave already booked again for next year !!
Coles,  Leighton Buzzard

Caserma Carina's location, amenities and management ensure a very relaxing family holiday - even with an energetic two-and-a-half-year-old in tow. The pool is beautiful and offers fantastic views and plenty of sun throughout the day. The apartments are both luxurious and comfortable and the area is unspoilt and welcoming. Dean, Lesley and Grace are incredibly friendly, very helpful and run a really well-maintained property with an excellent honesty bar of local wines and cool, crisp beer. Highly recommended whether you are looking for a touring base or a relaxing sun and swim holiday. We'll be back!
Burke,  Manchester

I find the really long reviews are the ones full of negatives so be prepared for short & sweet. This place is a very professional, owner run, set up. The end to end experience - from website, booking, directions, greeting on arrival, very comfortable apartment, well tended gardens, spotless pool, well stocked honesty bar, beautiful views of the countryside and mountains, a warm farewell. In addition to that I must add my personal requirements which were all met - peace & quiet, given your own space, real attention to detail, and a wealth of local info on bars/cafes/tourist sights - should you need it. Caserma Carina provides a totally satisfying experience and is excellent value for money - what else does one need?
McKeown,  Essex,  Sep 2010

Visited with my husband in September 2010 and we were incredibly impressed with Caserma Carina and our hosts' ability to provide directions/suggestions. The hospitatlity throughout our stay was first-class and we loved our apartment, clean and spacious, swimming in the immaculate pool, buying fresh fish and BBQ'ing in the evening, visiting nearby villages, Maccerata (fantastic cathedral and shopping), Sibillini Mountains and Lake Fiestra and a beach day on the Adriatic coast. Not enough time to doeverything, but a good excuse to come back SOON! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.
