General Info |
|
| |
This is where you can discover the true character of Portugal. Apart from the occasional car or church bells, the only noises are you are likely to hear are those of the local chicken, sheep and cows! The laundry room and swimming pool are both shared with the other self catering cottage (which sleeps 5). Aside from that, each house is fully independent and has its own terrace. |

Details on the area surrounding the property/accommodation |
|
| |
Set in the beautiful Minho area, midway between the towns of Ponte de Lima and Paredes de Coura, the farmhouse is in a rural area. However, it is also well placed for sightseeing, with Spanish Galicia to the north, the Atlantic beaches to the west, the historic cities of Porto and Braga to the south and the national park of Peneda-Geres to the east. The area abounds in picturesque market towns with their colourful street markets, tiny hill top shrines affording fantastic views over the surrounding countryside and village fiestas with their traditional religious processions. A couple of miles from the property is the protected area of Corno de Bico which is ideal for walking or mountain biking. There are plenty of local river beaches to explore. The historic town of Ponte de Lima is a must, with its Roman bridge and medieval centre. Horse riding available nearby. |

Further Details |
The nearest restaurant is just over a mile from the property and serves traditional Portuguese fayre. It also has a take away service. There are several good, family style eating houses in Paredes de Coura, a seven mile drive away, whilst Ponte de Lima boasts some more elegant restaurants for a special evening out. There are two small supermarkets (incl. Intermrché) in Paredes de Coura where most requirements can be met and several large ones in Ponte de Lima. The local golf course in Ponte de Lima is only a 25 minutes drive in the car. The farm is well placed for golfing holidays as the local course is more attractive, considerably cheaper and gives a better game than many of the Algarve courses. Other courses in the area are at Estella and Vigo (in Spain) - both are less then a one hour drive away.

What visitors have said about Lagar Cottage |

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to be based in this fabulous location in this perfect cottage for our exploration of Northern Portugal. We reluctantly leave tomorrow but head home feeling rested and revitalised. The house and grounds are stunning and a credit to your hard work and effort. In the house especially we could have asked for no more and are eternally grateful for the welcome and food parcel especially. Thanks again P+C xx

Enjoyed a fantastic week of both glorious sunshine and misty days in this fantastic conversion house. The children really enjoyed the garden and pool. A walk up the road to the church or to Renduffe cafe/restaurant, up the road to entrance to mountain park and up track to that curious spherical balanced rock that sits above the valley gives great views across to the sea. This has to be the most 'homely' holiday let we have stayed in. 'So well equipped' as my wife keeps saying! Many thanks Peter,Annie, Lila, Noah and Felix

Lovely pastoral setting, beautiful countryside and friendly local people. Cottage one of the best we have ever encountered in 30 years of holidaying in different parts of Europe. Thank you for your hospitality and a fascinating holiday.

Lovely ! Really enjoyed pool, figs from the tree and grapes from the vine. For angel's trumpets, vine-covered courtyards, bells that talk to one another, fields of mushrooms and happy memories - thank you.

An amazing winter retreat, even on misty days the view is breathtaking.

We feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to spend 2 weeks in such an idylic spot, we loved the Lagar cottage, the terrace and the garden outside. You have thought of everything for one's comfort - we've never before been to such a well-equipped holiday cottage.

Juste quelques mots avant partir pour vous dire combien ce sejour de 2 semaines etait formidable. La localisation de la maison etait idéale pour découvrir les villes et les plages de Portugal. Nous garderons longtemps ce souvenir.

At the end of last month I stayed at Margaret's cottage in Portugal and must say it was one of the most relaxing and pleasant places I have stayed. I have travelled throughout the world extensivly and found the cottage was clean, comfortable and had all the necessary items in place for a wonderful stay. I liked the fact that Margaret had got in some staple food items in ready so you could get straight into holiday mode. The accomodation was perfect, the pool had an awesome view over the valley and the location was quiet but it was easy to access the road network and discover a lesser know part of Portugal. All in all from site orientation, booking, access details, meeting the owners and the whole holiday was an absolute joy, just what was required by me and I am sure everyone.
